The core is you, in the most pure form that exists. As a queer culture we unfold an immersive nightlife where music, expression, performance, and play converge. PURPUR exists to make the ‘sub’ in ‘culture’. Make it creative, present local artists, and emerge spaces where pleasure, identity, and experimentation can thrive.
Long before it was a flag, it was a code.
Sappho weaving purple crowns in ancient Greece. Oscar Wilde pinning orchids to his lapel to spit in the face of Victorian morality. The color you wore when the world said you shouldn't exist, but you went out anyway.
In the 1950s the system tried to turn the color into a cage. They called it the Lavender Lads, and used the word to hunt us, fire us, and erase us from public life. We took their slur and turned it into armor.
In the first pride flag the purple stripe didn't represent peace, it represented the unhinged spirit of a community that refused to comply. Now the capitalistic machine wants to sell our history back to us, safe and clean and digestible.
Fuck that. PURPUR is the reclamation of the raw violet flame, back to the underground, back to the sweat, back to the margins where it belongs.
